Land Acknowledgment
We acknowledge the Lisjan People, and that this creative work has been practiced on their unceded, ancestral land. This land (now called Oakland) is the stolen territory of Huchiun, the land of the Chochenyo-speaking Ohlone People. The Confederated Villages of Lisjan are one of many Ohlone nations, each with its own geography and history and all of which are in reciprocal relationship with the land itself, as well as the plants and animals that share the earth and waters. We honor the Peoples of these villages and the regenerative work that they have been doing for millennia.

Sogorea Te’ Land Trust is working to Rematriate the land in Lisjan territory. Programs and initiatives include reclaiming stolen land, growing medicine gardens, building Himmetkas (emergency response hubs), distributing fresh food to elders, and revitalizing Indigenous languages, cultures and practices.
